Happy Thanksgiving!   Studio101 will be closed for regular session Monday-Friday, Nov 21-25, to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday.   However, I will be teaching all Monday students on Monday, Nov 21, regular schedule, as a makeup session for the Labor Day holiday.   Also, all Tuesday students will be given a makeup lesson on Tuesday, Nov 22, regular schedule, for Tuesday, Oct 4 in my absence.  If others would like a makeup session either of those two dates, please contact me.
Thank you.

My goal as a teacher is to help young students develop the skills they need to build a solid technical foundation for playing their instrument, to guide them in all aspects of their studies of musicianship, and to introduce artistic concepts for them to explore their self-expression through music and the arts. I like to build musicians for a lifetime of enjoyment of their skill.

Students will study traditional method of technique and repertoire through weekly lessons of either 30 or 45-minute duration. Music theory (study of key signatures and harmony), rhythm studies, and musicianship are part of a student's lesson. Students who demonstrate

Performing for others is a natural and rewarding outcome of playing a musical instrument. I encourage all students take part in formal and informal performance situations in a structured and safe environment to develop their skills in playing for others. Typical performances include -. Typical performances include Christmas Recital in December, a Classical recital in Spring, and other smaller performance opportunities. they are encouraged to seek out individual opportunities for performance, such as for school, church, and family events which I am willing to assist in the preparation of repertoire for such events.

Students who demonstrate the requirements for participating in various competitions will be give the opportunity to do so.

Piano Students
Required to have an 88-key piano available for daily practice (I prefer acoustic and highly encourage you to provide one for your child). A willingness to learn, the ability to listen, and the dedication to develop a structured and focused practice routine are more important than a student's current level of ability. Parents are encouraged to work with their child in developing a structured practice routine at home.

Harp Students
Advance knowledge of the piano keyboard is helpful, but not required. Students need to be provided with a 36-string lever or pedal harp for daily practice. I do have two 22-string rental harps but recommend only the first year of study on the small harp. Parents are required to assist young students in tuning the harp and setting up an ergonomic environment for daily practice. Parents of students age 10 and under may be asked to sit in on lessons to aid in the learning process.

Lessons take place at my studio located at 1209 W Shipley Ferry Road, Suite 101, Kingsport, TN 37663.
